Mage-OS Monthly Update
October is here, and there is plenty happening across the Mage-OS community. Two recent hackathons turned ideas into working code, several new projects have landed in Mage-OS Lab, and the autumn event calendar is filling up quickly.
Before we get into all of that, we need your input on something important.
Help shape AI in Mage-OS
AI is finding its way into almost every part of ecommerce, but that doesn’t mean every AI feature is useful.
We want to understand where AI can actually make a difference for merchants, agencies, developers and hosting providers. Which capabilities would save you time? Which would improve your store or workflow? And where should Mage-OS focus its efforts?
The answers will help guide the AI work planned for Mage-OS 4.0 and influence our roadmap beyond that.
The survey takes around five minutes to complete.
From ideas to code in Bologna
The Italian Mage-OS community returned to Bologna for its second hackathon, bringing developers together for a full day of discussion, prioritisation and coding.
Hosted by Reverse and co-organised by Davide Lunardon, Alessandro Ronchi and Samuele Martini, the hackathon began with more than 30 proposals spanning ten different areas.
After voting, one proposal stood out: creating an Italian Mage-OS distribution.
The idea is to provide a meta-package that makes it easier to launch Mage-OS stores for the Italian market, with essential local functionality available from the start. That includes Italian translations, support for Italian invoicing requirements and the ability for customers to request an invoice during checkout.
Other popular proposals included EAV attribute management compatible with Hyvä Checkout, social login, GA4 and Google Tag Manager integration, and AI-powered tools for product descriptions and SEO.
The community didn’t stop at planning. By the afternoon, contributors had moved on to implementation. Work began on social login and analytics, while the foundations were put in place for invoicing and attribute management.
There is more to build, but the Italian distribution now provides a clear place for contributors to coordinate their work and develop practical tools tailored to the needs and legal requirements of Italian merchants.
Thank you to everyone who contributed, to Davide, Alessandro and Samuele for organising the event, and to Reverse for opening its Bologna office to the community.
This is exactly where open source works best: people identify a shared problem, work on it together and turn the result into code everyone can use.
50+ pull requests in one day
Bologna wasn’t the only place where Mage-OS contributors were busy.
Another hackathon brought Magento developers together at the Made by Mouses office for a day focused almost entirely on building.
The result is more than 50 pull requests in a single day.
Contributors worked across security, accessibility and usability, alongside experiments with new functionality. Among the projects were voice input, improved inventory insights, and image and video generation.
A big thank you to everyone who spent the day contributing, to Made by Mouses for hosting, and to Mage-OS Nederland for sponsoring lunch and pizza.
And as for exactly what all those pull requests are building toward? More on that soon. 👀
What’s new in Mage-OS Lab
Mage-OS Lab continues to grow, with several new modules and experiments worth checking out.
SEO module
Sental is working on a module designed to cover the SEO functionality and schemas commonly needed by stores out of the box.
Digital Signature
Created by Nino from Digitalway, this module allows merchants to request and collect digital contract signatures for web orders.
Shopping Feed
RocketWeb has started open sourcing its modules, beginning with Shopping Feed. Version 1.1.0 supports the Google Merchant Center feed specification out of the box, with a NetSuite connector planned next.
FrankenPHP worker mode
Sental’s worker-mode project runs Mage-OS on FrankenPHP in worker mode and includes a companion integration for Hyvä. The project is looking increasingly stable, but additional testing and community feedback would be valuable.

Mage-OS Extension Directory
Ryan is building an open source extension directory to make useful Mage-OS and Magento modules easier to discover. A future goal is to make the directory accessible directly from the admin panel.
Profiler
Raj’s profiler captures performance information across different request types and provides an admin interface for inspecting the results. The project is expected to move into Mage-OS Lab soon.
RocketWeb has also published a large Mage-OS demo catalog based on the Wayfair WANDS dataset. It currently contains 50,000 products, with a target of 100,000, making it particularly useful for performance and scalability testing.
Two other experiments are worth following. The AEO Audit module explores optimisation for AI-driven search and answer engines, while Paul’s GraphCommerce FastBoot work has reduced Magento boot time by around 18–30 ms in testing.
If you’re looking for something new to test, review or contribute to, Mage-OS Lab is a good place to start.

Coming to Amsterdam a day early? Even better.
On 4 November, we’re holding a Mage-OS Pre-MMNL Hackathon at Bold Commerce, Teleportboulevard 128, Amsterdam.
We’ll be hacking from 10:00 to 17:00, and everyone is welcome. You don’t need to be an experienced Mage-OS contributor to participate. If this is your first contribution, there will be plenty of people around to help you get started.
