Mage-OS June Update
· mage-os-team · Updates · 4 min read
June was another busy month for the Mage-OS community, with progress across AI, developer tooling, testing, security, and community initiatives. The biggest event of the month was our annual General Assembly, which has now become a regular part of the Mage-OS calendar.
Welcome to the New Board
A big welcome to our newly elected Board members:
Thank you for stepping up to help guide Mage-OS into its next chapter. We also want to thank our outgoing board members for their time, effort, and dedication to growing the project over the past year.
Annual General Assembly
The General Assembly brought together community members to reflect on the past year and discuss what’s next for Mage-OS.
One of the biggest themes was the roadmap for Mage-OS 4. AI will continue to be a major area of investment, with discussions around a shared AI foundation, merchant-focused tools, catalog generation, AI-powered search and recommendations, and improvements to AI discoverability for online stores.
Developer experience also remains a priority. Work continues on better development environments, automated testing, Playwright integration, CI improvements, and tools that make contributing to Mage-OS easier than ever.
The meeting also included a discussion about the long-term sustainability of the project. As Mage-OS continues to grow, community memberships and company sponsorships remain essential to supporting infrastructure, releases, and ongoing maintenance.
AI Continues to Shape Mage-OS
AI was a recurring topic throughout nearly every community meeting this month.
Several exciting projects were presented, including:
- AI Engine Optimization (AEO) tools to help merchants improve visibility for AI assistants.
- An SEO module with structured data, Open Graph support, product schema, and AI-friendly metadata.
- A proposal for an AI-agnostic MCP server focused on secure store interactions using Magento permissions.
- Discussions around AI-powered merchant assistants and future Mage-OS AI capabilities.
The community is taking a practical approach by focusing on tools that solve real merchant and developer problems while remaining flexible as the AI ecosystem continues to evolve.
Better Tools for Developers
Developer tooling saw significant progress this month.
Playwright integration continues to move forward, making end-to-end testing easier to run directly within Mage-OS. Work is also underway to improve automated testing through the Check Extension project, which validates packages using coding standards, unit tests, integration tests, and dependency injection compilation.
Another highlight was the presentation of Bricklayer MCP, an AI-assisted development toolkit that integrates directly with Magento. Early feedback from the community has been very positive, with many contributors interested in exploring how similar ideas could improve the Mage-OS developer experience.
Community Projects Keep Growing
It’s great to see more people contributing from across the community.
The Italian Mage-OS community reported a successful local hackathon that brought in new contributors and several new module ideas, including a Store Locator module and a Digital Signature module. Events like these continue to demonstrate how local meetups can drive meaningful contributions back into the project.
Discussions also continued around expanding Mage-OS with open-source B2B functionality, observability through OpenTelemetry, and additional AI-focused community projects.
Security Remains a Priority
Security was another important topic this month.
Community discussions covered recent package ecosystem security incidents, improvements to package integrity, stronger repository protections, and better vulnerability scanning.
There was also an in-depth discussion about how AI is changing the cybersecurity landscape. As AI tools become more capable, attackers can develop exploits much faster, making timely security updates and good server configuration more important than ever.
