Since July 2025, we've adopted a predictable versioning strategy for upgrades
Major
#.0.0New features, dependency changes, system requirement updates.
Minor
#.#.0Security patches, compatibility updates.
Patch
#.#.#Critical off-schedule fixes.
Current Release: Mage-OS 3
Released May 2026 on Magento Open Source 2.4.9, our most feature-rich release to date.
Interactive Installer
A guided bin/magento install wizard with service auto-detection, resume-on-failure, and optional Hyvä setup.
Returns (RMA)
Built-in Return Merchandise Authorization — customers request returns and merchants review, approve, and respond.
Admin Activity Log
A built-in audit trail of who changed what and when, for auditing and compliance.
Minimal Distribution
A lean install of ~98 core packages, with everything else available as individual Composer packages.
Bundled Developer Toolkit
n98-magerun2 and other established community tools shipped by default.
PHP 8.5 Support
Built on Magento Open Source 2.4.9, with PHP 8.5 support and faster compiled performance.
2026 Roadmap
Our development priorities are shaped by community input through weekly tech meetings, GitHub discussions, and member voting.
Q1 2026 (January - March)
Mage-OS 2.1-2.2 - Minor releases incorporating upstream security patches. Plus continued Lab module evaluations, developer experience improvements, and documentation expansion.
Q2 2026 (April - June)
Mage-OS 2.3 & 3.0 - Mage-OS 3.0, our next major release, shipped in May on Magento Open Source 2.4.9 with PHP 8.5 support, new Mage-OS Lab features, and updated system requirements.
Q3-Q4 2026 (July - December)
Ongoing security patch releases, additional Lab module graduations, ecosystem integrations and partner tooling, and community growth initiatives.
Security Patch Schedule
Starting in 2026, Adobe releases security patches on the second Tuesday of each month
Monthly Adobe Patch
Mage-OS Response: Minor version release within days
Critical Vulnerability
Mage-OS Response: Emergency patch as needed
End-of-Life Version
Mage-OS Response: Assessment for extended support
