Why does
Mage-OS exist?
Fueled by Passion, Forged by Community
Mage-OS exists to Accelerate Change & Pioneer Innovation
The Mage-OS Distribution is built on top of Magento Open Source
Here are some of the initiatives we are working on to improve the Magento platform.
2018-2021: A New Chapter for Magento
Strategic Shifts: Magento’s integration into Adobe set the stage for new directions and innovations.
Community Resilience: Our vibrant community’s resilience has turned challenges into collaborative triumphs.
Foundation for Innovation: These years were crucial in redefining our goals and strengthening our commitment to open-source excellence.
Emergence of Mage-OS: Inspired by the need for autonomy and enhanced community collaboration, Mage-OS was born—a testament to our collective dedication and vision.
2021 The Open Letter
Frustrated by this situation, a group of passionate people decided to act. They created a fork of Magento Open Source code, so that Community contributions could continue to improve it, enhance it and ensure its longevity.
Collectively the people who wrote the Letter about the Future of Magento and the 1,600 who signed it were representatives of solution vendors, agencies and developers that have been building successful businesses thanks to the Magento platform across the world.
2022 Founding the Mage-OS Association
After the letter got endorsement and interest within Magento Community, a group of developer already starting working on the “fork” and infrastructure needed to make the idea a reality.
In the meantime, a global non-for-profit association was founded under the Polish jurisdiction in Warsaw, with the aim to provide support and structure to all the initiative that would help contribute to making the Magento Open Source eCommerce platform better, faster, stronger.

2023 The Magento Renaissance
In person events resumed after the COVID 19 pandemic, and members of the Magento Community could feel the excitement of coming together again, not just to party but also to achieve great things together both technical and community wise.
In 2023 Adobe dedicated resources and talents such as Ritesh Somani and Parul Sinha to give a new boost to community contributions.
They also hired Mathias Schreiber as the new CEO for the Magento Association to help double down on Community efforts including Meet Magento Events and content about Magento.
